Eric Topol, in his book The Patient Will See You Now: The Future of Medicine is in Your Hands, utilized Rodney Dangerfield’s quotation of “I don’t get no respect” to emphasize that patients today, do not get the respect they deserve when it comes to their healthcare. The Patient Will See You Now is essential reading for anyone who thinks they deserve better health care.
I’m proud that Warrick County, the place I’ve called “home” all my life, is finally seeing greater accessibility to health care services. Being a nurse and a health care professional for over 25 years, I’ve seen first hand that people are very hesitant to take off work to go to the doctor, especially when there is a twenty to thirty minute commute, followed by a lengthy wait once you reach the doctor’s office. Neither businesses nor individuals can afford to spend the national average of 3 or more hours for one visit to the doctor.
We all know that emergency rooms are not the best place to go when you are sick with a cold, cough or even the flu. They are expensive and their rooms need to be left open for patients who have actual emergency needs.
We all need options to receive accessible, quality care and the recently added care options will help Warrick County residents do just that.
